This is an old fashioned feature, but I like to use it when I can. Here the cake is finished, a slice is cut out, and then the slice is stitched back into the cake with a thin lattice of royal icing, all ready for the Bride and Groom to cut the cake. You can even add a ribbon around the slice, in the Bridesmaid’s colours.
